ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Scarborough Literature Festival is in its sixth year and we have got another stellar line up authors and performers that will appeal to all ages and literary tastes.

The Festival is again brought to you by North Yorkshire County Council’s Library and Information Service and is funded by the Arts Council’s Grants for the Arts Award. The festival team are excited to be able to share their passion for the written word for a 7th year and as well as the showcase 4 day festival we are working with schools, University of Hull – Scarborough campus and the youth service on a number of other projects including a student conference and a year long multimedia project with the Yorkshire Coast College working with three groups of learners. We want everyone to catch the reading habit.

Each year we are lucky enough to work in partnership with other organisations and individuals, who not only share our passion but also bring to the festival, their own distinctive culture and expertise and are delighted to include events from the Scarborough Museums Trust, Friends of Scarborough Library and the Scarborough Archaeological Society in our programme.

We believe that a love of books comes from a love of stories and this year we have teamed up with children’s Arts coordinators Rollercoastival to develop a storytelling event aimed at a younger audience. The first Scarborough Children’s Storytelling Festival will take place on 31st March and will see nationally renowned storytellers weave their magic in Scarborough, celebrating the rich diversity of stories from across the world.

CATCH UP WITH KATE ATKINSON

Patron of Scarborough Literature Festival

The Yorkshire coastline, its communities and landscape has inspired so many writers over the years. For me, it has a special place in my heart. I spent many family holidays here as a child and lived for some time in Whitby. I still return here regularly with my own family.

The rich and varied programme of events presented by the Scarborough Literature Festival this year is testament to the great team who have worked so hard to establish the weekend as a highlight in the literary calendar. There is something for everyone to discover here, and I hope it will in turn prove inspirational too.
