Fringe Events beyond The Long Weekend!
April is the time to be in Scarborough

Thursday 10th April

7.00pm North Yorkshire One Nine Nine with Chris Firth, Richard Jemison and Nigel Whitfield
Venue: Scarborough Library, Small Meeting Room
Running Time: 2 hours
Price: Free

An evening of the poetry and breath-taking photography from non-fiction Yorkshire Book of the Year 2007, North Yorkshire One Nine Nine.

Chris Firth will read his poetry from the book and recent publications on Teesway and Whitby. Photographers Richard Jemison and Nigel Whitfield will talk about the photographs that accompany the poetry. The evening will be packed with music, beautiful words and images.



Friday 11th April

7.45pm Scarborough Film Society presents Away from her starring Julie Christie and Olympia Dukakis
Venue: Scarborough Library Concert Hall
Running Time: 110 minutes
Price: £4 Pay on the door

Julie Christie was nominated for a BAFTA and is likely to win an Oscar for her performance in this film based on Alice Munro’s short story The bear came over the mountain.


Saturday 12th April

3.00pm Animated Objects Theatre Company presents Jabberwocky
Venue: Scarborough Library Concert Hall
Running Time: 60 minutes
Price: £4 and under 12s £3

Lee Threadgold’s adaptation of Jabberwocky featuring puppetry, storytelling and heaps of fun for all the family. Jabberwocky is suitable for families with children from 3 years and up.



Saturday 12th April

7.00pm Animated Objects Theatre Company presents The Canterbury Tales
Venue: Scarborough Library Concert Hall
Running Time: 60 minutes
Price: £4

See some of Chaucer’s best loved characters brought to life with puppetry, music and plenty of fun in LeeThreadgold’s adaptation of The Canterbury Tales. This performance contains strong language and some adult content.

Sunday 13th April

1.00pm Beach Hut Theatre Company & Yorkshire Coast College present Bursting into Life
Venue: Scarborough Library Concert Hall
Running Time: 2 1/5 hours
Price: £5, £3 concessions. Pay on the door. All profits to charity.

Have you ever felt the pain of unrequited love? Or wondered what life might be like on God's Toe? Bursting into Life, is a celebration of female thought and imagination in a series of new plays written and directed by young, local women. Young people display their amazing talent to entertain and electrify!
This performance contains strong language.



Monday 14th April

7.30pm Scarborough Archaeological and Historical Society with Dr. Jack Binns
Venue: Scarborough Library Concert Hall
Running Time: 2 1/5 hours
Price: Free

Be entertained and informed by Dr. Jack Binns. He will talk about some of Scarborough’ s genuine celebrities included in his forthcoming book: More Scarborough Heroes, Rogues and Eccentrics, Part Two. An opportunity not to be missed!



Thursday 17th April

11.00am Listening, Looking and Dressing-Up led by John Clarke
Venue: Scarborough Art Gallery
Running Time: 60 minutes
Price: Free admission for children, Adults £2 standard annual pass.

An opportunity to hear stories illustrated in the Gallery's FairyTales exhibition, look at pictures and dress-up as a fairy or goblin. For accompanied children aged 1 to 4 years.

Wednesday 30th April

6.00pm The Death of Criticism? A lecture by Professor Terry Eagleton
Venue: University of Hull, Scarborough Campus
Running Time: 60 minutes
Price: Free

Terry Eagleton is Professor of English at Manchester University and has written a number of books, the most recent being The Meaning of Life. Reception afterwards.
