Enjoy the sparkling company of Helen Dunmore and Deborah Moggach as they converse with each other and the audience about their life and work.

Nurturing a love of poetry from childhood, Helen has travelled around the world promoting live literature and creative writing. Her style is a mix of contemporary and historical and her literary achievements include the Orange prize for fiction for A Spell of Winter. She will read from her latest novel Counting the Stars and poetry collection Glad of These Times.

Deborah is the author of sixteen successful novels including These Foolish Things and Tulip Fever which are currently being filmed. Her screenplays include the BAFTA nominated Pride and Prejudice starring Keira Knightley. This year watch out for her TV dramatisations of Anne Frank’s Diaries and the scandalous years of Shirley Porter at Westminster Council. Deborah will also read from her latest novel, In the Dark.

A former presenter of The Late Showand Woman’s Hour, Sarah’s work has also encompassed producing and directing for BBC television and radio. Mark Billingham is a stand up comic, actor and writer with a wicked sense of humour. His first novel Sleepyhead was an instant hit, quickly followed by many other bestsellers featuring DI Tom Thorne

Meet the writer at his ‘Peak’! Discover the dark side of Derbyshire with Stephen Booth and his two detectives Ben Cooper and Diane Fry.

As a teacher of criminology, Denise Mina has a needle sharp insight into the criminal mind. Misusing her student grant she stayed at home and wrote Garnethill which won the John Creasey Dagger Award. She now writes in a variety of genres including fiction, plays and graphic novels.

The panel is complete with top author Natasha Cooper, who will host this event. In 2007 Natasha chaired the Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival. The author first published historical fiction but soon found her natural home in crime with the Trish Maguire novels.

Blake Morrison’s versatility ranges from poetry and fiction to biography and drama. Lisa’s Sex Strike was recently performed by Northern Broadsides at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. His most recent novel South of the River set in Blairite Britain, explores the themes of love, memory and loss. And when did you last see your father is a sensitive account of Blake’s relationship with his parent. The recent film version starred Colin Firth.

South African born, Justin Cartwright worked in advertising, film and politics before putting pen to paper as a novelist. He was a spin-doctor in the seventies and eighties. His novel The Promise of Happiness was a Richard and Judy Book Club hit!

Enter the weird and wonderful world of Jasper Fforde as the writer takes us on a voyage of discovery with Thursday Next, his detective heroine. Jasper’s writing is a mix of crime and fantasy. He will speak about his latest work First Among Sequels.

The trio is complete with Christopher Brookmyre whose work combines humour, politics and fast-paced storylines. He has won many accolades and Boiling a Frog won the Sherlock award for the best Comic Detective. His first novel Quite Ugly One Morning was a TV hit starring James Nesbitt. A complimentary glass of wine is included in the ticket price.
